Summer StART

15th Annual Summer StART Workshop

for graduating 5th graders

Session 1: Saturday  May 13, 2017  10am-4pm

Session 2: Saturday  May 20, 2017  10am-4pm

This full day art workshop celebrates a milestone — graduation from 5th to 6th grade. Children from schools all around Lexington join together for a day of fun, friendship, food and creativity.  Students will transform common materials into amazing, imaginative sculptures.  They’ll share a delightful lunch at a local restaurant and be treated royally while learning the importance of supporting locally grown food and locally owned businesses.  At the end of the day, students will proudly exhibit their artwork at a celebration with family and friends.   Students may choose to attend either Session 1 or Session 2.

Cost: $75 (needs-based scholarships are available)

We held Session I of Summer StART at Lexington’s GreenFest, “the place to learn about living sustainably while having fun!”  Students created a touchable work of art using (and reusing) a variety of leftover and discarded materials–wallpaper samples, puzzle pieces, cotton balls, buttons, and more.  They participated in a cardboard challenge and then marched with their cardboard creations in a parade with our fabulous local ‘March Madness Marching Band’.

During Session 2 students made wire sculptures with Luke Eldridge and tye-dyed T-shirts with Darby Harper.
